President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, appreciates the work, commitment and coexistence of Albanians in his country.

In an interview with journalist Sidorela Gjoni, in Euronews Albania, he states that after the signing of the Ohrid agreement in 2001, their representation in politics and at the local level has increased significantly.

“After the Ohrid agreement was signed, Albanians are widely represented and there is no government position they do not have access to. In these 22 years, Albanians have made great progress. If in 2001, the representation of Albanians at the state level was 2.4%, now it is 21%”

With this argument, President Pendarovski also comments on the election of Talat Xhaferi at the head of the country’s government.

“We work with Mr. Xhaferi officially, but we have also known each other privately for a long time. He has worked professionally and impartially, and this was one of the reasons why SDSM  Social Democratic Union of Macedonia) supported him to be the first Albanian speaker of the parliament in North Macedonia.”

Pendarovski has been the president of the country for 5 years and in his political career, he singles out the Ohrid agreement in 2001 as one of the most difficult moments, which was reached after 7 months of negotiations.
