The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has stated that the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken will find Albania committed to peace and stability in the region when he visits the country next week.

The U.S. State Department has confirmed that Blinken will travel to Albania and Germany during the period of February 14-17.

This visit aims to reaffirm Washington’s ties with Tirana.

Rama highly values the visit of the U.S. diplomat to his country, in a period, according to him, troubled for the world.

He has reaffirmed Albania’s support for the efforts of the United States and the European Union in normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

The latter engage in dialogue in Brussels, mediated by the European bloc since 2011, with the aim of normalizing relations.

He mentioned, among other things, the justice reform in Albania, saying that his country is thankful for the “valuable partnership of the United States in the historic reform of the justice system”.

In December 2019, the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) was established in Albania, aiming to investigate corruption at high levels and organized crime.

The United States has stated that they support SPAK’s work.

Recently, a new ministry has been established, the Ministry for Administration and Anti-Corruption, which is responsible for activities against corruption.

Adea Pirdeni has been appointed as its head, who until now has been the Deputy Minister of Justice.
