Over the course of a month, in the Tirana police have been denunciations for 70 cases, for publishing photos and personal data without permission on social networks. Police experts say that most people do not know that the penalty for misuse of photos is from 6 months to 6 years in prison.

Minors and girls are easier to manipulate, but there are also cases when these are the authors of the criminal offense themselves, computer forgery.

“They are not separated, there are all kinds of age groups. We have also had minors who have blackmailed, but also the average age…”, said Klodian Bilushi, head of Cybercrime Tirana.

The denunciations have been increasing, from year to year, but nevertheless, in many cases, they are reports made late, when the victim himself has surrendered before this fact. The more time that passes from the opening of the profile, the more difficult it becomes and it takes time, closing it, from the experts.

“From June 2023, criminal offenses with this tendency have been recorded almost three times the previous time. For 2023, there were 423 more cases than in 2022,” said Klodian Bilushi, head of Cybercrime in Tirana.

Tik Tok is at the top of the list of denunciations, but social networks such as Instagram and Telegram are not left behind either.

“Tik Tok at the moment, but it also continues on Instagram…Telegram has an approach that posts a lot of photos and not just one person. We have several cases that we are investigating… Most people have no idea that the punishment is too much for this part, 6 months to 6 years in prison. Of course, if they enter the part and the consumption of the criminal offense of online stalking increases, in 99% of cases the perpetrators commit this too”, said Klodian Bilushi, head of Cybercrime Tirana.

In such cases, the best and fastest way to catch an author and close profiles is to report to the Police, as well as save any evidence or distribution link.
