The Parliament of Hungary approved on Monday the draft law enabling Sweden to join NATO. Hungary was the only country out of 31 NATO member countries that blocked the membership of this Nordic country in the North Atlantic alliance.
Lawmakers have voted with 188 votes in favor and six against.
President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, has welcomed the newest state of the NATO alliance with a post on the “X” platform where he writes:
“Welcome, Sweden, as the 32nd member state of NATO. Our alliance is now even stronger and more united, strengthening our collective security and values,” writes Begaj on X platform.

Orbán’s government has faced pressure from NATO allies to be in line with other alliance countries and to ratify Sweden’s accession agreement.
“It’s finally done, Sweden is the 32nd member of the alliance, and in this way NATO has become stronger,” said Agnes Vadai, a lawmaker from the Hungarian opposition party, the Democratic Coalition.
