The Albanian Ministry of Defense has concluded two contracts related to the Kuçova air base.

In the Public Procurement Agency system, the contract for the “Construction of necessary infrastructure for UAV (hangar and service environments)” procedure at the Kuçova air base was announced, with a value of 270 million lek or about 2.6 million euros.

Earlier, this procedure became part of an appeal to the Public Procurement Commission, which approved the Ministry to proceed with the necessary steps of the procedure after the recommended correction made in the system.

According to documents, the new hangars to be built are objects of particular importance.

The Kuçova Air Base was built in the 1950s to accommodate Albanian Air Force aircraft. This base has been brought back into focus in recent years with an investment supported by NATO, where Albania joined in 2009. In the first phase of modernizing this base, investments of 50 million euros were estimated.

The Albanian side’s contribution is estimated at around 10% of the overall investment value in this base, which with NATO’s investment will become a deployable tactical base.

The NATO Tactical air base in Kuçova is due to open on March 4.
