In recent days, the farmers of the Korca district are selling apple, onion and potato products.
All this, according to them, has come for two reasons, firstly due to the price reduction they have made for the products and secondly the increase in customs references by the Albanian government for import products as well as the increase in controls of agricultural products in customs.
Petraq Andoni, apple picker in the village of Zvirinë, municipality of Maliqi says that for these two reasons there has recently been an apple market.
“The purchase of apples has moved in the last few days because it happened that we lowered the price a little, it went up and a few references at customs, maybe something is moving. That we are selling little by little, not to say satisfactorily, but we are removing some apples. Maybe these things that are talked about have been done, but we see that we are moving something”, said Petraq Andoni, collector.
The same thing is accepted by Besnik Dervishaj, a potential farmer who deals with onion production.
“It continues to be sold, but we have reduced the price a little, and the customs that increased the reference in the customs has helped us. They are coming and looking, but not much, here in the middle the merchant wins, because he earns 5 lek, he helped us because they are looking. It is almost finished in our village, 3-4 houses have onions”, said farmer Besnik Dervishaj.
Arben Dulellari, director of agriculture in the municipality of Maliqi, has officially announced that to protect farmers, the government has taken customs measures for foreign products.
“Actually, recently there has been an increase in apple and onion trade. It has come as a result of the measures taken by the government to increase the reference prices for the products that enter the country, the checks for analysis and this has brought an increase in the trade of local production”, said Arben Dulellari, director of Agriculture in the Municipality of Maliq.
16 thousand tons of apples, 25 thousand tons of onions and 23 thousand tons of potatoes were produced in Maliq municipality alone this year.
