After the evidence of numerous violations in the last local and parliamentary elections, it seems that the Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić has surrendered to international pressure.
He declared on Saturday that he has advised the leadership of the Serbian Progressive Party (SN) to go to new elections in Belgrade, which are expected to be held in the following months.
Vučić asserted during a press conference that “I have advised the president of SNS, Milosh Vucevic, and the candidate of this party for mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Šapić, that they should consider the possibility of holding new elections in the capital”.
OSCE/ODIHR identified many irregularities in the local elections in Serbia, including the fact that voters came from the Republika Srpska and Bosnia-Herzegovina, who did not have a residential address in Belgrade.
