Democratic Party Chairman Lulzim Basha presented the resolution for Ukraine at the UN.

The resolution is expected to be approved for the confiscation of Russian assets and their allocation for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“There was unanimous support from the representatives of Ukraine’s allied countries for the resolution and the fact that Russia must pay for the damages caused in Ukraine,” emphasized Basha in a video message.

“In New York, I have had a number of important meetings regarding my initiative, as a rapporteur in the General Assembly of the Council of Europe for the confiscation of Russian assets. And here precisely began the inception of this initiative with the resolutions of the General Assembly of November 2022 and March 2023,” emphasized Basha.

“I have spoken with various representatives of diplomatic missions of member countries, with whom I have found extraordinary support. We have had discussions in the presence of high-ranking officials from Ukraine, who have also emphasized the necessity of finding the most effective solution, which will transfer frozen Russian federation funds from member countries to be used for the benefit of Ukraine, for its reconstruction and support in all forms and ways,” he said.

“It has been a very productive day of meetings here at the main headquarters of the UN in New York. This day of important meetings concludes. A week that began with good news in Paris, where the Legal Affairs Committee approved and paved the final way for the approval of the resolution at the General Assembly session of the Parliamentary Assembly in April. So, the week started with good news in Paris. It ends with good news here at the UN, in New York, where on behalf of Albania, I had the honor to present this resolution, which has a very simple rule: The aggressor pays! It sets a precedent, by which anyone with aggressive intentions against their neighbors must be held accountable, because they will be held responsible both financially for the damages caused and for the crimes committed,” emphasized Basha.
