The significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Albania has caused the demand for tourist guides to increase significantly.
“The city of Durrës has an immediate need to have new professionals in relation to new guides or cultural guides as they are otherwise known”, said Dorina Xheraj, lecturer at the UAMD tourism department.
Under these conditions, the municipality of Durrës has set its eyes on the students of “Aleksandër Moisiu” university.
The student Hermes Sollaku has already created a work experience in this field and is waiting for the equipment with a license.
“Tourists have different requirements and a good guide must be well prepared to create the perfect conditions for a tourist. They are more interested in the years of the communist regime, how was that period, personal and family experiences, how was daily life, etc.”, said Hermes Sollaku, UAMD student.
Therefore, the municipality organized a meeting with the students and lecturers of the university this Monday.
At the meeting, emphasis was placed on the presentation of new one, two or three-day guides, which will offer foreigners a wider panorama of all the historical, natural, culinary, adventure tourism potential that the 3000-year-old city offers.
“We have called these students, who have about 15 weeks of practice and in cooperation with the Directorate of Tourism they will test the tourist guides that have been made available to them by us and through this testing we will look at the possibility of designing new mini packages of diversified: Durrës in one day, two days or three days”, said Floreta Kërtusha, representative of Durrës Municipality.
Currently, the students are doing the internship by cooperating with the tourist agencies, while they will work in the field accompanying the foreign tourists who come in this period to Durrës.
