Private health clinics and laboratories have had a bright increase after the pandemic.
The official data of INSTAT shows that the net income in businesses related to health services reached about 44 billion ALL during 2022, with an annual increase of 7.5%, while compared to 2019, the income increased by 67%.
In 2019, revenues from health services provided by private individuals were 26 billion, but after the pandemic, they reached the level of 44 billion lek in 2022.
The Covid-19 pandemic increased the need for laboratory tests and routine check-ups, prompting the opening of hundreds of businesses offering health services.
In 2022, there were around 4,030 businesses with health activity in the entire country with an annual increase of 17%, while compared to 2019, enterprises in this sector increased by 27%.
This increase was also reflected in the number of employees.
The health sector had the largest increase in the percentage of salaried employees. In total, there were 12,095 salaried persons or 29% more than in 2021.
Recently, businesses in this field are being driven by the demand of foreigners for health services in Albania.
Aesthetic interventions and dental services have begun to be requested by them, turning them into a stable group for receiving these services in Albania.
The demand is increasing year after year, also because the burden of diseases in the local population is expanding rapidly, as a result of the aging population and changing lifestyles.
