The Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, has sent a letter to the DASH (U.S. Department of State) senior official, James Rubin, after the establishment of the Disinformation Commission.
In her letter, Nikolla invites the American official to visit the Parliament of Albania and address him with a word “about the importance of joint efforts to fight foreign malignant influences”.
“I am writing to you regarding the recent motion initiated by a group of MPs to establish a Special Committee to counter malign foreign influence, including disinformation. The Conference of Chairs passed today the decision of the Parliament to establish such a Committee and forwarded it to the plenary session for approval.
As Albania lacks a proper framework to address such influences, I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit the Parliament of the Republic of Albania. Your valuable experience and insights would greatly benefit the committee’s efforts to counter these forces.
Furthermore, I would like to request that you address the Parliament on the importance of joint efforts to counter malign foreign influences. Your speech would help raise awareness and encourage cooperation in this crucial matter.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to your response,” wrote Nikolla to the letter addressed to James Rubin.
Today, the Speakers’ Conference was convened in the Parliament of Albania to discuss the Socialist Party’s request for the establishment of a special Commission for Disinformation.
The establishment of the commission in question was voted only with the votes of the majority, while the head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, has requested the postponement of this issue for another moment, as according to him, it is a delicate topic that must be addressed in a longer time.
