Durrës, often referred to as the capital of tourism in Albania, is starting a summer season, which seems to be successful.

“Reservations start in May, around the second week of May, where the Spanish and Baltic markets stand out, which are new, and it continues with the Poles, as it has always been, but also with the Germans after the summer season”, says Aleksandër Granolli, tour operator.

The extension of the season from May to the end of October was very successful last year, when Durrës registered about 1.5 million tourists. Therefore, this year the season of sand and sun is expected to last longer than the typical 3 months of summer.

With all the work done, this new summer season is expected to come with old problems.

“The problems remain the same, where we can mainly focus on the marked lack of specialized but also simple human resources, the instability of the currency, the occasional early strengthening of the lek in relation to the euro and the dollar”, emphasizes Artan Luku, chairman of DHTI Durres.

In last year’s report, Durrës is among the only tourist cities in the country, which has a fair price-service ratio. An achievement that intends to keep this year as well, the city that has tourism as the engine of the economy.
