Prime Minister Edi Rama hosted an iftar dinner this evening on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

During the dinner, Rama also gave a short speech, where he expressed that it is a virtue to submit to the strong discipline of fasting.

He also said that Iftar is a sharing of bread between the stronger and the less strong.

“Like the fasting people, I can’t wait for this iftar together with Linda and everyone who commits to the sofra to have the spirit of an evening that brings us together neither religion nor language, but the feeling of belonging to something the same, for which we find names different, or we find the limitless closeness. Without trying to name it, we feel its limitless closeness.

The iftar meal is not unusual. Iftar is a sharing of bread between the strongest, those who overcome the weaknesses of the body by fasting, and those who are less strong.

It is a virtue to submit to the strong discipline of fasting in this month, which is not for nothing called magnificent, i.e. exalting. Today I belong to the category of the least strong. I find it virtuous to sit non-fasting people at the iftar table,” said Rama.
