The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, reacted to the calls of the Serb List to boycott the vote for the dismissal of the mayors in the four municipalities in the north.

According to her, this call of the Serbian List for a boycott comes at the order of the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučić.

“Unfortunately, this time too, it is Aleksandar Vučić, who does not keep his word to the allies in meetings where both Chancellor Scholz and President Macron were present. But also in other meetings where he had guaranteed that he will not put illegal pressure on the Serbs not to participate in such a process”, said Osmani.

The decision to withdraw from the elections in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, of the Serb List, has been described as a reckless decision by the Central Election Commission in Kosovo.

The boycott of the April 21 elections by the Serb List, the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, has been widely commented on in the media. It was the chairman of the Serbian List who commented on the departure stating that “unfeasible procedures” have been set for the April 21 vote, that the voter lists “do not reflect the real situation on the ground” and that the number of Albanians on the voter lists ” has grown”.

Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission of Kosovo decided that the vote will be held on April 21, after verifying the citizens’ signatures on the petitions for the dismissal of the mayors of the municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo, North Mitrovica, Leposavič, Zveçan and Zubin Potok.

The Albanian mayors were elected in April 2023 in the elections which were boycotted by the Serbs as a sign of dissatisfaction with the policies of the Government of Kosovo.
