Citizens of Albania and Kosovo will pass through the border point of Morina with accelerated procedures throughout the 9 months of the year and on holiday weekends.

The revised protocol was signed in Tirana by the Minister of the Interior of Albania, Taulant Balla, and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla.

“Through this signing of this new protocol, we will enable the facilitation of crossing procedures and border verification at the joint point Morina-Kukës for the entire period 1 May – 30 September and 1 November – 28 February, i.e. 9 months in total year, in contrast to the current protocol that provided for 4 months, specifically only June 1 to September 30. During this period of eased circulation, there will be no passport checks, identity cards for citizens, I emphasize for the citizens of both our countries”, said Balla.

In his speech, the Minister of the Interior of Kosovo said that the purpose of this cooperation is to serve the citizens on both sides of the border as best as possible, avoiding bureaucracies.

“We are determined to do more to serve our citizens as well as possible and to be as efficient as possible in fighting crime in our countries. We will go ahead with other agreements, so that our citizens do not feel the restrictions at any moment, nor do they know where they really are, but that they are welcome in Kosovo or Albania, in the summer or winter season. With the zero bureaucracy approach, let’s work for cooperation to be at the highest levels”, said Sveçla.
