“RoRo” ships, dedicated to the maritime transport of vehicles, are witnessing a significant increase in activity in the new port of Porto Romano in Durrës.

“With the arrival of RoRo ships, a massive influx of vehicles has been noticed, as 200 containers with cars could come with a container, which means about 800 vehicles”, says Luis Bekteshi, operational manager at MBM port.

This increase is particularly noticeable in the flow of vehicles originating in South Korea, indicative of an upward trend in the vehicle import sector.

“It was a kind of experiment with 300+ cars from South Korea destined for Albania and other ports in the region of Europe”, he says.

“Currently, there are around 3050, 3100 cars that have arrived at the port. With the data we have, it is predicted that by the end of May, the figure will exceed 5500-6000 vehicles”, says Bekteshi.

For Bekteshi, the trend of importing vehicles from South Korea is attributed to several factors.

“There are many dealers who have been working with South Korea for years, as the quality of the vehicles is very high, the maintenance, so they are in much better condition than the cars bought in Europe and the price is cheaper”, he explains.

In addition to serving the domestic market, Durrës also serves as a major transit center for vehicles destined for neighboring countries in the Balkans and beyond.
