Amnesty implementation begins| 1,600 convicts benefit, 800 are released

This Wednesday, April 24, the implementation of the law on criminal amnesty begin, after approval in the Assembly with the consensus of the opposition and the majority.

The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, was today in the prison of Rrogozhina, which also has the largest number of convicts who benefit from the amnesty.

Manja said that in the country the number of people who are released today from the amnesty is 780, a number that is expected to be updated with the people who are in police stations and benefit from this amnesty.

The total number of amnesty beneficiaries is 1,600, as 800 convicts benefit from reduced sentences.

“At the country level, today the implementation of the law on amnesty has started, today about 780 convicts will leave the cells, this figure will be updated because there are a number of convicts who are in the police station and are beneficiaries of the amnesty. 800 are beneficiaries with a reduced sentence, in total 1600 convicts benefit from amnesty.

15 women are released, 9 others benefit from a reduced sentence and will be released by the fall, out of 38 convicts in the Ali Demi prison in Tirana, 3 minors benefit, 2 benefit from a reduced sentence. Beneficiaries are also 2666 people in probationary service. From this amnesty, the state budget is saved 30 million euros”, said Manja.
