The digital letter is expected to be the next virtual document with which Albanians will be equipped.
This proposal, reflected by the Ministry of the Interior in the amendment made to the law “On the electronic identity card of Albanian citizens”, has already been submitted for public consultation. But what is a digital identity card and what will it serve for:
MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR “Digital identity, as a tool that enables recognition of a person in the digital environment, includes personal information, such as name, date of birth, address, and other important data, creating the possibility of ensuring a high level of compliance of standards and security across member states, to facilitate movement and communication through digital platforms within the EU and to strengthen the security and protection of personal data.”
However, having this new document does not invalidate the current physical notification letter.
“The notification can be in electronic or digital form. In any case, citizens can choose to be provided with one of the forms of ID, or they can be provided simultaneously with ID in both forms, electronic and digital.
Experts have argued that the approval of this draft law will fulfill the government’s objectives in terms of digital identity, by standardizing the identification of citizens at the European level and implementing a common digital identity, which can facilitate communication and cooperation with European institutions and businesses. Also, a common digital identity can help fight organized crime and fraud.”
