The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has commented on the visit that the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is expected to make on May 12 to the neighboring country.
Through an interview for the local media, Mitsotakis said that Rama is not a guest of the Greek government, but is going there to talk with his Albanian compatriots.
“It’s his right, a choice that seems unnecessary to me, that’s why I said it’s an unnecessary choice. We have problems with Greek-Albanian relations”, he said and added that the issue of the arrest of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, is European, not bilateral.
However, he said that he will not stop the rally that Prime Minister Edi Rama will hold in Greece, but he will not facilitate it either.
He also pointed out that the Greek minority in Albania is represented in the European ballot of the party he leads, Neo Democracy, with two candidates, as according to him, are also the Greek Muslim citizens, which does not happen in the ballots of the two parties of other great Greeks.
