The city of Gjirokastra has been twinned with the municipality of Bujanoc, aiming at strengthening and cooperation in various fields, mainly in education, culture and tourism.
The mayors of the two cities, Flamur Golemi and Nagip Arifi, signed the agreement, paving the way for the implementation of joint projects.
Currently, the beginnings of this cooperation have started with the support of 4 students from the Preshevo Valley who study at the “Eqrem Çabej” University of Gjirokastra.
“We have started the first steps for a cooperation agreement in the field of culture, artistic, activities and economy and we have started by supporting the first 4 students, who are currently here in Gjirokastra,
studies are continuing in Gjirokastra and today we actually concluded and concluded the protocol and bureaucratic process of the twinning of the municipality of Gjirokastra and the municipality of Bujanoc, despite the fact that they are physically more than 500 km apart, this does not separate our two communities, it does not separate Albanian citizens from being together”, said Flamur Golemi, mayor of Gjirokastra Municipality.
“The biggest work we have done is we have started cooperation in the field of culture and education since last year 4 students from Bujanoc are studying in Gjirokastra in the school year 2024-2025 this number will increase from 4 to 10 students and the municipality of Gjirokastra covers all the expenses of the students”, says Nagip Arifi, mayor of Bujanoc Municipality.
Now Gjirokastra has a series of collaborations and twinnings with different cities in the Albanian space, which are positively affecting the promotion of the values and resources of the stone city.
