The increase in the number of visitors to Gjirokastra during this tourist season is encouraging the interest of young people to be employed in the tourism sector. For several weeks, the young Vanesa Dine has been employed as a tour operator guiding local and foreign tourists who wish to visit the historical and museum values of the stone city.
“I think it is important to prioritize tourism in our city. Gjirokastra is a city that offers many attractions for tourists in many areas in the historical, natural tourism,” she says.
For Vanesa, although a working day is busy in response to the interest of tourists, she still contributes to the promotion of the values of Gjirokastra.
“Usually in the morning it’s a bit quieter, then the flow of traffic starts mainly in the morning and lunch hours, tourists come and mostly ask about the directions in which they should go to visit, houses, museums or castles, what it can offer the city”, says the young woman.
The interest of visitors from all over the world is high to visit the touristic values as well as the cultural monuments in Gjirokastra and its surroundings.
“There were groups from different countries mainly from Europe, there were French, Italian, Spanish groups, also from other continents, they came from Asian countries, even from Australia or New Zealand”, she says.
There are already many young people from Gjirokastra who look at tourism as an opportunity for employment and economic income.
