This Monday, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly approved Kosovo as an associate member in parliamentary assembly.

The Assembly of Kosovo has advanced its status from observer to associate member of this organization. During this vote, one vote was against and a total of 14 abstentions.

The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, reacted to this action, who congratulated Kosovo on this advancement.

“Congratulations, Kosovo, for being elected as an associate member in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly!” Begaj wrote on Facebook.

Speaker of the Assembly of Albania, Lindita Nikolla, has also welcomed the vote by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly of the recommendation for advancing the status of Kosovo from an observer member to an associate member of the PA.

“The vote by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly of the recommendation for advancing the status of Kosovo from an observer member to an associate member of the PA is a well-deserved achievement. The permanent delegation of the Assembly of Albania to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will continue to support and encourage the growth of Kosovo’s role and contribution to the protection of peace. Kosovo’s successes are also Albania’s and Albania’s successes are also Kosovo’s”, said Nikolla.

The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, welcomed the accession of Kosovo as an Associate member in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Through a post on Facebook, Basha writes that this is good news for him, for the Region and for Europe.

“On the eve of the 25th anniversary of liberation, Kosovo, an Associate Member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, is good news for it, for the Region and for Europe. The right and safe steps of Kosovo in its Euro-Atlantic journey prove the invincible will of a state that in a few decades is returning from a consumer of security, to a state that contributes to the peace and stability of the Region. Now is the time for the NATO member countries that have not yet formalized the recognition of Kosovo to take this step, paving the way for its membership in the Alliance, as a contribution to the peace and stability of Europe. By learning from the mistakes of the past, let’s build a safe and prosperous future for the region and Europe”, says Basha.
