Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said this Sunday that he expects the candidate for Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, to declare publicly, clearly and categorically, that he respects the Prespa Agreement, that his country is called North Macedonia in the use of internal and external.

In a press conference held on the island of Crete, ahead of the June 9 European elections, Mitsotakis said that at the moment Greece emphasizes that “VMRO’s aim in practice is to challenge one name and one for all” and stressed that “Greece will not accept”, writes the Macedonian portal a1on.

Asked if this concrete issue will be raised at the NATO Summit in Washington in the first half of July, Mitsotakis answered positively and emphasized that “it will be the first opportunity to be in the same forum with the new prime minister of North Macedonia”.

“Of course, I will raise this issue at the NATO Summit for the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Alliance. And I would really encourage the leadership of Skopje not to jeopardize the European course, which our country supported and which I think the citizens themselves want”, stressed Mitsotakis.

He said populism in foreign policy can be attractive to attract votes, but he does not support taking a serious foreign policy when he officially takes office.

“I believe that in the end logic will prevail and there will be a recognition of what is implied in the Agreement, which has negative things for us, but one of the important dimensions is precisely a complex and single name for everything, and no. One could argue that in practice,” Mitsotakis said.

He reiterated once again that he will seek absolute harmonization on this issue.
