Today, a solemn session was held in the Assembly of Kosovo for the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the country from the Serbian troops of the Former Yugoslavia.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, during his speech in the Assembly, said that Kosovo has learned lessons from the history of NATO’s military intervention to stop the war.

He added that Kosovo is strengthening ties with the USA and other powerful countries, while Serbia, according to him, is aligned behind Russia.

According to Kurti, this anniversary finds Kosovo standing together with the allies “as on June 12, 1999”.

The chief executive of Kosovo also said that the EU is the target political family of Kosovo, while NATO is the target military destination.

“Beyond military technicalities and international law, the ‘de facto’ result of that mission was the liberation of Kosovo from Serbian troops. Further details and recorded facts of the events of those days belong to history and historians, but it is precisely from this history that lessons should be drawn as we have done from then until today.

And this is best understood by the geopolitical and geostrategic alignment of our countries today. As  then, as now, Serbia stands behind Russia, just as Russia stands behind many of Serbia’s actions. And our country, Kosovo and its people, together with Albania, has continuously strengthened its ties and alliance with the United States of America, with Great Britain, with Germany and Turkey, with France and Italy and with the countries other western partner.

The European Union is our target political family, while NATO is our military destination. Therefore, today we are marking the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Kosovo by standing together with our allies, just like on June 12 and just like in the first days of liberation”, Kurti said.
