The Embassy of the United States of America reacted after the Court of Appeal decided to give the seal of the Democratic Party to former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

The US Embassy has stated to the media that their position remains unchanged and adds that they will not cooperate with persons declared “non grata”.

They appeal to all other politicians to carefully consider how they work with US-sanctioned individuals.

According to the Embassy, the fight against corruption is a matter of national security for the USA.

“Our position regarding non-grata designated individuals remains unchanged: we do not engage with individuals designated under US sanctions authority, and everyone should carefully consider how they work with US designated individuals.

Our engagements with political actors will be strongly based on the commitment we share to Albania’s Euro-Atlantic future, including the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

As President Biden has repeatedly noted, the fight against corruption is a matter of national security for the United States,” the embassy’s response reads.

Euronews Albania journalist Ardit Hoxha, said in a direct link from the blue headquarters, that the reaction of the American embassy came after the great interest of journalists in this matter.
