Muslim believers today celebrate Eid al-Adha, one of the 2 most important holidays in the Muslim calendar.

Thousands of believers gathered this morning on the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard for the prayer of Kurban Bayram. The holiday of Kurban Bayram is to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to God and his willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail.

Believers believe that at the point of sacrifice, God replaced Ishmael, (the son of the prophet Ibrahim) with a ram, which was to be slaughtered in his place. This command from God was a proof of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness and commitment to obey his Lord’s command, without question. Therefore, Eid al-Fitr means the festival of sacrifice.

The head of the Albanian Muslim Community, Bujar Spahiu, while congratulating the believers, emphasized that he hoped that this day would serve as a day of reflection for more love for each other.

Meanwhile, the head of state, Bajram Begaj, as well as Prime Minister Edi Rama, also conveyed congratulations to the Muslim believers, as they described Kurban Bayram as the holiday of reflection, which can make society better and fairer.
