The President of the Republic of Albania Bajram Begaj paid an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany this Wednesday at the invitation of his counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The two presidents first had a one-on-one meeting.

Bilateral cooperation, Albania’s integration into the European Union, developments in the region, the implementation of the Berlin Process agenda in the Western Balkans, as well as security and defense issues were the focus of the conversation between President Begaj and President Steinmeier.

The President of Albania Bajram Begaj thanked his German counterpart for the reserved reception as an opportunity to continue the discussion started during President Steinmeier’s visit to Tirana in December 2022, as well as for issues for which support and understanding have been reached.

According to President Begaj, this meeting is an indicator of the excellent political cooperation between the two countries, as well as the constant attention of friendly Germany towards Albania and the Albanian people.

President Begaj conveyed his thanks to President Steinmeier for his contribution to strengthening relations and partnership between the two NATO allied countries that share common European values.

“The Albanians who live and work in Germany or the German businesses that are present in Albania also contribute to this,” said President Begaj.

During this meeting, the Head of State received the full support and guarantee that Germany will continue to support Albania on the path to membership in the European Union and on this occasion expressed to President Steinmeier his sincere appreciation for the vocal political and public support, as well as the assistance and help offered in this direction.

Regarding developments in the region, President Begaj said that the role and commitment of Germany remains important and irreplaceable so that the challenges facing the Western Balkans do not affect or compromise the Euro-Atlantic future.

In this context with the war in Ukraine and the influence of third actors, the President of Albania Bajram Begaj estimated that close regional cooperation is needed, where the European future will be the guide for the common future in peace, security and prosperity.

The Berlin process, according to the President, remains an innovative and indispensable mechanism for strengthening this cooperation, the economic integration of the region and also the integration with the single European market, as well as a powerful impetus for the EU integration process.

The President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, reconfirmed to the German President Albania’s full and continuous commitment to this initiative and Germany’s commitment.
