In these hot summer days, accompanied by an increase in health problems, the white shirts in Gjirokastra have set up mobile outpatient centers for providing medical assistance. Mobile tents with complete doctor and nurse staff are at the service of residents in the city and administrative units.

“This comes as a result of the hot summer season where the temperatures have been very high and we have always been close to the citizens to sensitize them mainly but also to make random diagnoses of the citizens mainly in the third age, pregnant women or counseling for small children”, said Edi Sinoimeri, director of the local health care unit.

During the ambulatory visits, in addition to providing first aid, the white shirts have also found other concomitant diseases.

“From these initiatives we find that citizens have hypertension or high diabetes, other random diseases where we immediately refer them to our neighborhood ambulances, to the family doctor and following the relevant protocols to the specialist doctor, we have also had cases where we have immediately sent to the emergency room of the Gjirokastra hospital”, said Sinoimeri.

Due to the high weather temperatures, the health structures in Gjirokastra are showing increased care for tourists visiting the stone city and its surroundings.

“The number of tourists is increasing and in this way our primary health services have been reinforced with doctors and nurses mainly in tourist areas such as the museum city of Gjirokastra or rural areas such as Libohova, Dropulli, Lunxheria, etc. where all our medical and nursing services are immediately available to all tourists coming from different countries of the world”, said Sinoimeri.

To avoid health concerns from the hot weather, the white shirts recommend avoiding hours spent in the sun, consuming as much fluid as possible, staying in cool environments, etc.
