This week, Assistant Secretary O’Brien spoke about US support for the transition of the Kosovo Security Forces into a multi-ethnic, NATO-interoperable territorial defense force subject to civilian control.

O’Brien says that Kosovo has the right to defend its territory like any other country.

“1244 set up a political process to discuss the future of Kosovo and that process was developed and resulted in the independence of Kosovo. So, Kosovo has the right to defend its territory like any other country. It is doing this in a transparent process and in close cooperation with international partners as a way to ensure its protection without threatening the bush. So I think that overall it is a move towards regional stability and that we will continue to support it from USA” writes O’brien.
