On Tuesday, the Administrative Court of Albania rejected Fredi Beleri’s request regarding the date of the elections in Himara.

Beleri sought the annulment of President Bajram Begaj’s decree, which set August 4 as the election date for the Municipality of Himara.

Klodjana Gjyzari, the legal representative of the Unity for Human Rights Party (PBDNJ) and former mayor Fredi Beleri, based her defence on the President’s rush to announce the election date without waiting for the conclusion of the appeal process filed by Fredi Beleri.

On July 5, President Begaj decreed August 4 as the date for new elections in Himara, immediately after the Central Election Commission decided to remove Beleri’s mandate as mayor of Himara.

Beleri was arrested on May 12, 2023, two days before the elections in Himara, and is currently serving a prison sentence for active corruption in elections.
