The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, is staying in the United States to participate in the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which begins today.

Kurti’s office announced that he will be a participant in a panel discussion entitled “National Democratic Convention and the Role of Political Parties”.

“The panel will be opened by the chairman of the board of directors of NDI, Tom Daschle, and will be moderated by the President of NDI, Tamara Wittes, where, among others, the former Secretary of NATO, Lord George, will be part of the panel Robertson and Donna Brazile, former head of the Democratic National Committee and now part of the NDI board,” the announcement states.

The Democratic National Convention kicks off on August 19 in Chicago, less than a month after incumbent Joe Biden’s expected exit from the presidential race.

This event, which will be televised, offers the opportunity for Vice President Kamala Harris, already confirmed as the Democratic nominee for president, to present her views to a national audience.

Last week, the American ambassador in Pristina, Jeffery Hovenier, said that Kurti plans to participate in the National Democratic Convention at the invitation of the National Democratic Institute, adding that this institute has also invited the leaders of other parties in Kosovo.

“But, to be clear, this is not an invitation from the American Government”, said Hovenier.

Meanwhile, Kurti’s office said that the prime minister will also have various bilateral meetings during his stay in the United States, without giving any other details.

Kurti travels to the US at a time when Washington is encouraging the Government of Kosovo to return to “constructive engagement” with it, the EU, NATO and other international partners.
