Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has commemorated the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, through a post on social networks.

In his reaction, Berisha congratulates Ukraine on this anniversary and says that this holiday found its place in the war with the Russian invader.

Describing the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin as the Hitler of modern Europe, Berisha also shares the message of the Ambassador of Ukraine to Albania for this special day.

Berisha’s post:

Today is the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence!

Dear friends, the martyred nation of Ukraine celebrates the 33rd anniversary of Independence today. Ukraine’s independence was the greatest act in its nation’s long history. This act marked the realization of the centuries-old aspirations of Ukrainians for freedom and national dignity and the end of the Russian imperial occupation of Ukraine.

Today, this anniversary finds the nation of Ukraine under the leadership of President Zelenskyy at war and facing the barbaric Russian aggression of Vladimir Putin. Thousands of sons and daughters of Ukraine have fought and fallen heroically on the battlefield for the protection of their country, but also of the whole of Europe from the Russian invaders!

Expressing on behalf of the Democratic Party the best wishes to the friendly nation of Ukraine and its authorities for the celebration of independence and victory over the aggression of today’s Hitler of Europe, I invite you to read the message of the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Albania Mr. Volodymyr Shkurov:

I heartily congratulate you on the main national holiday of our people – Independence Day of Ukraine!

33 years ago, our people approved the construction of a sovereign and self-governing, independent and open, democratic and legal state of Ukraine. In the life of Ukrainian society, a great event took place, the aspiration of millions of our fellow citizens to live in their free and democratic state, and although the process of building the Ukrainian state was objectively difficult, Ukraine has reached significant heights in all aspects of restoring its independence.

Powerful economy and industry, construction and transport, agro-industrial complex, cutting technology, culture, medicine and education, talented and ambitious youth and a people aspiring to live again, freed from the path of the totalitarian past.

But the obstacle was Russia’s war against our country with its cynical occupation of Ukrainian territory, missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages, deaths and destruction of peaceful homes, industrial and infrastructure facilities, hospitals, theaters, museums, schools and kindergartens, murders and abuses of civilians.

We celebrate Independence Day this year on the 913th day of the terrible war with a sense of gratitude to the thousands of Ukrainians who, at the cost of their lives, defend our country at the front.

Today we remember with sadness and boundless gratitude those who gave their lives in defense of the Ukrainian state and our people from the occupier. May the memory be eternal, our infinite gratitude to all those who fell for the independence of the homeland and the freedom of our people.

Happy Independence Day everyone! I wish each of you family, victory over the aggressor, peaceful skies, warm meetings with family and loved ones, happy future for free, prosperous Ukraine.

Happy Independence Day!

From the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Albania Volodymyr Shkurov
