The Great Highlands (Malësi e Madhe) is one of the tourist destinations that every year is seeing an increase in local and foreign visitors. Mostly foreigners who are passionate about adventure, often visit the mountain areas which offer impressive views.

“I’m from Italy and it’s the first time I come to Razem. I like it a lot. The nature is fantastic and so is the food. I have explored Albania for the first time I am in this part. I recommend it to everyone as I liked everything”, says a tourist.

In addition to mountain tourism, which is popular throughout Albania, in recent years the area around Lake of Shkodra has become an attraction for mainly foreign tourists with campers, but also in the resorts that have been built recently.

To Euronews Albania, the mayor of the Great Highlands, Tonin Marinaj, says that this tourist season looks very good and there has been a steady increase in tourists throughout the territory of Great Highlands.

Marinaj emphasizes that one of the most important factors for sustainable tourism are the prices, which have not increased in the entire territory of the Great Highlands.

“Prices have been stable, very acceptable. So all these businesses have not abused the prices despite the fact that there are cases that a product for one reason or another increases, the price has been the same. So, there is no abusive part of any business in terms of price increase”, says the mayor.

The entire region of Shkodra is leaving behind a successful summer season, while the challenge remains the realization of year-round tourism from the coast to the height of the Alps.
