Albania is shrinking day by day and one of the factors is the drop in birth rate.

Cens 2023 data show that around 510,000 girls and women in the age group of 15-49, considered as the reproductive age, live in the country, but 42.6% of them have not yet given birth to children.

Divided by age group, it can be seen that women who are not giving birth until the age of 30 are more numerous than those who give birth.

After the age of 34, women who have given birth begin to dominate. But still in the 30-34 age group, 25% of women have not given birth, while 75% have given birth.

Even in the 45-49 age group, there are 11% of women who do not have children.

Experts have said earlier that the high migration of men and the personal development of women is affecting fertility rates. In recent decades men aim to increase their capital by migrating and women aim to get an education.

In 2023, only 22,210 babies were born across the country, the lowest level since 1934 when official annual data were reported, but meanwhile the number of women of reproductive age is over 500,000.
