In this early September, the city of Gjirokastra and its surroundings continue to welcome a high number of local and foreign tourists. Representatives of tourist businesses say that about 60% of tourists come with organized groups, while the rest travel as families or individuals.

Mostly foreign tourists in this period prefer to visit the cultural monuments as well as the historical and architectural values of the stone city.

“The months of September and October are part of the peak of the tourist season for Gjirokastra because it is known that these are the months of the cultural tourism season and Gjirokastra is one of the main destinations, the number of visitors has been very high these days, we are all witnesses, you have seen the shopping streets full, all accommodation structures are mostly reserved because they are cultural tourism groups”, said Maksim Hoxha, chairman of chamber of commerce.

“The month of September has started well, we have almost had reservations from groups to the extent of 60% and now 20% there is also an influx of tourists who are individuals”, said Hysen Kodra, tourist business administrator.

The high trend of tourist attendance is expected to continue during the fall. Already about 80% of the accommodation capacities are exhausted for the months of September and October, making the city of Gjirokastra and its surroundings the chosen destination for tourism at the national level.

“This September progress is also for the month of October until the first week of November, we hope that there will be continuity even after the first week of November, however, until this period that we are talking about, Gjirokastra is 70-80% closed in terms of bookings”, said Maksim Hoxha, president of the chamber of commerce.

During the summer period, Gjirokastra was visited by a high number of tourists, positively affecting the development of the local economy and the creation of jobs.
