The well-known director Mike Figgis has come to Tirana as part of the British cultural week.

On the evening of September 17, at the “Agimi” art center, a masterclass was held by Figgis, the purpose of which was to promote the transfer of knowledge between the film industry in the United Kingdom and the Albanian one.

In front of the art lovers, for about an hour the director gave a lecture on the construction and techniques of the film, while he did not hesitate to talk about his personal life.

“My knowledge, my experience are related to cinema. My goal is to inform as much as possible for filmmakers interested in the film. For a year and a half I have been in America, Atlanta, Georgia and I have explained how a film is made,” said Figgis.

Among other things, he told how he started his journey, and the challenges he faced to realize the director’s dream.

“I went to a festival in my country to see a movie. I saw another director making a film. I applied to a music college. Maybe it was that I was an improviser. So I was in the driving position. I admired every orchestra, I met a lot of very interesting jazz musicians, but the classical side of it was a bit of a challenge for me, and I never learned to play the instruments,” he continued.

Mike Figgis is a British director who made his feature debut with Stormy Monday in 1988.

Figgis directed the Hollywood thriller Internal Affairs, Oscar Leaving Las Vegas and the experimental split-screen drama Time Code.
