September 30 marks International Translation Day.

This day coincides with the feast of St. Jerome, the translator of the Bible who is considered the patron saint of translators.

As part of World Translation Day, the National Book and Reading Center this Monday held the activity “Translation, a bridge between cultures”, where translators and writers participated.

The chairman of the translation association in Albania, Rexhep Hida, was also present, who said that despite the pollution of the Albanian language, the publishing houses have not allowed its distortion.

“During these 30 years, I can say that two trends have been observed, a trend to pollute the Albanian language with unnecessary foreign words and another trend to protect it with intact determination.
From the beginning, the publishing houses did not allow the distortion of the Albanian language or the contamination with foreign words. There was no need for any special control,” said Hida.

While the translators of various works expressed that language plays an important role in uniting nations.

“Neither literally, nor freely, but exactly. You will translate correctly into Albanian what he said. You must be loyal, without realizing that you are loyal,” said the writer Diana Çuli.

International Translation Day is intended as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to the development and strengthening of world peace and security.
