Elbasan was selected among the cities of Albania by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to launch the national pink October campaign for the prevention and early detection of breast cancer with the slogan “It’s worth living”.
1 in 8 women are at risk of developing breast cancer.
“What is most important is that we have to tell ourselves, not only in October, but at the beginning of every month, at the beginning of every day of the week. We must remind ourselves that “It’s worth living” every second. And in order to live, you have to prevent. And in order to be able to prevent, you must be checked and cured at the right time,” said Minister Albana Koçiu.
During the 31 days of October, free mammograms will be offered throughout Albania, even without the need to follow the referral system.
“Girls and women aged 30-50 will receive a notification message in their e-Albania account, which will remind you and invite you to do the necessary examinations. Women aged 50-70 will receive a notification message in their E-Albania account, which will remind and invite you to periodically do the next mammogram,” explained Koçiu.
Mobile mammograms will also be at the service of deep areas.
Throughout the year 2023, 25 thousand mammograms were performed throughout the country, of which 5 thousand were examinations by mobile mammography units.
