Ilir Proda is now officially the new General Director of the State Police. Following the proposal from Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha, Proda received approval from the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.
The Interior Minister himself made the announcement in a statement to the media. Hoxha noted that competitions for local police leadership positions will also begin soon.
“The candidate who was appointed today as the General Director of the Police will lead the State Police. Immediately after his appointment, we will initiate a new competition process regarding all police leaders in the regions,” Hoxha stated.
Ilir Proda’s career began in 2005 after graduating from the Police Academy.
Initially, he worked as a Criminal Police specialist at Police Stations 3 and 4 in Tirana until 2012. He then moved to the General Directorate of the State Police in the crime investigation sector, where he worked for many years.
He first assumed the position of chief of a police station in October 2013, serving at Police Station No. 2 in the capital until December 2014.
He was then assigned to the Bulqiza Police Station until February 2016.
After obtaining the rank of chief commissioner, Proda was appointed deputy director for crime investigations in Korça in 2019 and, two years later, held the same position in Elbasan.
After receiving the leadership rank in March 2023, he was appointed director of the Elbasan Police, one of the cities with a high level of crime.
Proda was among the most discussed names for this position. It remains to be seen what his journey will be like, as holding such a position has not been easy for his predecessors.
