The leaders of the Patriots political faction met in Brussels before the meeting of the European Council, in the first meeting of the newly formed party.

Migration was at the center of the discussions, with leaders discussing new ideas to keep migrants out of Europe’s doors.

“After a visit to Uganda, my party is considering the possibility of sending the migrants there, instead of allowing them to stay in the Netherlands, often illegally. My government is also working on several plans to tighten the policies in our country as much as possible,” said Geert Wilders, from the Freedom Party.

Far-right leaders support the Italy-Albania protocol, which allows asylum seekers to be sent to the centers in Shengjin and Gjadër, while they await the review of the asylum request by the Italian authorities.

Asked about the agreement, Prime Minister Orban said:

“Good deal. Congratulations”.

The European Commission proposed 10 points on migration, some of which coincide with the extremist approach to the issue: forming partnerships with non-EU third countries and sending them to so-called “points of return” outside the Union. But for the Patriots, that’s not enough.

“Until now we have not seen clear proposals. All these remain only assumptions. And since I know very well that the Commission wants migration, I have no faith that it will solve the problem,” said Marine Le Pen, president of the National Union.

The Patriots party, made up of 11 political forces from different EU member states, aims to turn this initiative into a regular meeting.
