Professor Pashko Camaj, a well-known public health expert, has immortalized his challenge to the American dream and leaving his homeland 40 years ago in an autobiography titled “The Order of the Tower”, which is a translation of the book “Dreams from Baggage of an American car”.
It deals with the topics of migration, the experiences of migrants and their lives.
Camaj faces the feeling of guilt for leaving the lands of the ancestors.
He says: “I wanted to leave a mark with simple stories, giving them life to tell the generations after. The goal is for those who come to America to know where their roots are.”
He says that from the first day he left, there was a constant question: “Have I sinned against the 16-17 generations who have lived in the same house?”
This work describes his inner journey, spiritual and social, in the attempt to know himself.
The tower, which represents the house where he grew up, serves as an ancestral fortress where ancient traditions are protected. Camaj invites us to discover the message of the tower through experiences that confront two worlds: the past and the present.
The book, with its way of telling, is very close to the reader, offering a deep insight into the life of migrants and the challenges they face.
This autobiography is a call to recognize roots and identity, and to preserve traditions in a changing world.
