Road accidents are increasing year by year. According to official statistics, of the 1,285 road accidents that occurred in 2023, 1,110 or 86.4% occurred as a result of the driver’s behavior, while 175 or 13.6% occurred as a result of pedestrian behavior.

While pedestrians seem to be more aware from one year to another, and this is reflected in the decreasing number of accidents caused by them in the last 3 years, drivers continue to break the rules and as a result accidents are increasing.

The INSTAT report that analyzed the last 3 years of road accidents has highlighted that administrative measures have increased by 18%, compared to 2022.

What stands out is that exceeding the speed limit is the most repeated violation by drivers, which is also the main cause of accidents.

Fines for “Non-compliance with speed limits” account for 24.8% of the total measures set for 2023.

In addition to speeding, drivers do not respect traffic signals, another cause that leads to road accidents. 12.1% of the fines have precisely the justification of “Disobeying traffic signals”.
