In the commission for disinformation, the Governor of the Bank of Albania gave explanations regarding hacker attacks on the banking system. He stated that there were attacks, but they did not damage the system.

The banking system has also fallen prey to cyber attacks in Albania. According to the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, the banking system has not been hit by hackers and is stable.

“There have been continuous cyber attacks. The banking system, despite these interventions, has been stable and has not been hit. Except for one case that has been managed. Attacks are of different natures. We have attacks that are about getting data, and attacks that are about hacking bank accounts. It cannot be easily determined. We do not have specific data from which countries they come from”, said Gent Sejko, the Governor of the Bank of Albania.

While reporting to the special commission on decryption, the chairman of the commission, Erion Braçe, asked him about investments originating from unfriendly countries in the banking and non-banking system.

“They come from EU countries, but they have their origins in the capitals over there. All the countries bordering Russia have this concern,” Braçe said.

“We do not have foreign investments from hostile countries. If they penetrate here from other places, we cannot identify this”, said Sejko.

Although there has been a law for cryptocurrencies or digital money in Albania for 4 years now, the market still does not appear to be formalized.

“We have not had requests like Bank of Albania for cryptocurrency. Of course, the financial market needs modernization and digitization. Cryptocurrencies are a higher level than the Albanian market”, said Sejko.

The Financial Supervisory Authority is working to prepare a draft law that regulates activity in the cryptoasset market to harmonize it with EU directives and regulation.
