Prime Minister Edi Rama and Hungary’s counterpart, Viktor Orban, gave a joint statement to the media.
Rama was in Budapest at the summit of the European Political Community, which will be held in Albania next year. He said that he feels optimistic about Albania’s future while adding that he hopes that its membership in the European Union will happen within this decade.
“Albanian is a heavenly language, it takes an eternity to learn it. But it is also a purgatory when it comes to translation. This is how I choose my English. It was a very special day because this is a very beautiful city. It is a great privilege to work in a team and we will work to make the next meeting just as successful”, said Rama.
“This summit has a very tangible sense of freedom to mention even dangerous topics. Most of you are here to ask him about the new owner of the White House, but I want to say that we believe and thanked his majesty the President of France, Emmanuel Macron for organizing this meeting.
It is clear that we need to work with this team to create a similar structure to make the work between the two forums more connected. As the president of France said, if we count the people we represent in this wonderful space of this stadium, there are 500 million.
In this Europe of 500 million people, there are different ways of thinking, but this number makes you think how many things can be done differently”, said Prime Minister Rama. I am tragically optimistic about the future of Albania, whose place is undoubtedly in Europe and a new path has already been opened for us thanks to the Hungarian presidency. We are ready to join within this decade. Because it is less and less arguable that the European Union with two borders is feasible”, he added
