The oldest settlement in Europe, belonging to the Neolithic period, has been discovered in North Macedonia. The news was announced by the former Macedonian Prime Minister, Ljubco Georgievski, according to whom the rare discovery was made by an international group of archaeologists.

“About 20 days ago, German universities announced that an international team of archaeologists, in which Greeks also participate, which is very interesting, determined that the place – the Vlaho settlement near Monastir, is the oldest settlement in Europe, from the Neolithic period. This information is not available in Macedonia for 20 days. Do you know why? After the publication of this, Serbian archaeologists started an attack on how there could be something older than Lepenski Vir”, former Prime Minister Georgievski said.

He added that it is currently believed that Lepenski Vir is the oldest settlement in Europe, while expressing surprise that no one is talking about the fact that according to new discoveries the oldest settlement is in Macedonia.

For this reason, the former Macedonian prime minister asks local politics not to be silent about this special event. According to him, the government should invest to build a tourist center in Europe’s oldest settlement, which would attract many tourists.
