The building you see behind me is the house where the great lyric poet Lasgush Poradeci lived. Before 37 years he would leave this life and today, he is not honored with a house museum, as has been promised for dozens of years by the Municipality of Pogradec.
On November 12, 1987, Lasgushi would close his eyes forever, leaving behind a great literary wealth of Albanian poems and letters.
The great Pogradec poet still does not have a house museum, where the place where he lived or his personal belongings can be highlighted for tourists and visitors.
Budjon Xhelo is one of the people who had the opportunity to know the poet closely, and today he calls the lack of a house museum flagrant.
“It is a great shame for all the citizens of Pogradec but also for the Ministry of Culture that we still do not have the house of the national poet Lasgush Poradeci. It is a communist curse, I have been in this city for 50 years, I knew Lasgushi alive, I honored him dead. Lasgushi’s house must be built, it must be rebuilt from the ground up, not like today. Open to all. The poet who sang to patriotism has been left homeless” said Xhelo.
For the deputy mayor of the Pogradec Municipality, this promise is expected to be fulfilled soon, with the investments that will be made in the historic neighborhoods of this city.
“I don’t call it an unfulfilled promise, it was one of the projects that Pogradec municipality did before. It is someone else’s private property, not public property or the poet’s family. In cooperation with the Institute of Monuments, the project for the reconstruction of two neighborhoods has been financed. Within this year, the rehabilitation work will begin. Lasgush Poradec’s house is also included. In cooperation with the existing owners, it will be transformed for local and foreign tourists”, said Paskalino Ziko, deputy mayor of Pogradec Municipality.
Today, on the anniversary of the death of Lasgush Poradeci, there was no activity in the city where he was born and raised, about which he wrote until his last breath.
