The Assembly of Albania has requested the postponement of the session of the Constitutional Court regarding the objections to the recent changes in the Electoral Code. The hearing, which was scheduled to be held on November 26, will take place on December 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

The request for postponement was submitted by the Assembly on November 11, 2024, where not only the change of the date of the session was requested, but also more time to present the arguments of the Assembly. A day later, on November 12, the Constitutional Court examined the request and decided to accept it. The public session was postponed to December 4, while the Assembly was given a deadline to submit submissions until November 27, 2024.

The changes in the Electoral Code have been disputed by some political entities and organizations, which demand their repeal. Among the applicants are the “Movement for National Development,” the “Albania Behet” organization, the “Nisma Thurje” party, as well as the deputies Lulzim Basha, Orjola Pampuri, Merita Bakiu, Gëzim Ademaj, “New Democracy Alliance,” “Democratic Movement for Change, “Albania National Conservative Party,” “Albanian Democratic Christian Union,” and “Albania Hour.”

In their requests, these groups requested that the trial be quick due to time constraints, taking into account the deadlines for the upcoming elections.
