Albanian parents are the best in Europe. The study published by the WHO, for teenagers aged 11-15 ranks Albania at the top for the help and emotional support that parents give to their children.

“Especially at 11-15, which is a delicate age for the Albanian parent’s psyche, it is an age that the child must always be aware of, they must be vigilant about how they develop their daily life. The fact is that we are ranked so high and as a result of an inherited mindset, a culture passed down from generation to generation”, said psychologist Entela Binjaku.

WHO experts say that family support protects them from mental health problems.

“Parental presence protects him from loneliness, from anxiety, from depression,” said the psychologist.

But for this, the golden mean must be found and when it comes to supporting children, as there are two sides of the coin.

“It gives more security, it gives self-confidence, it gives more skills that are acquired thanks to the parental model, as there is also the risk that often when parents exceed those norms of parental care, they risk that the children make them a little incompetent for many skills that life requires, it often teaches that the sacrifice of others is normal, we expect this sacrifice from others, we ourselves take on fewer obligations”, said Binjaku.

Even when talking about communication with parents, especially the mother, it was seen that Albanian teenagers have it easier than their peers. The study highlighted that boys are supported more than girls in all countries, which is no surprise for Albania.
