The Academy of Sciences has presented the draft of the new Dictionary of the Albanian Language, a lexicographic project that includes more than 120 thousand words. This dictionary, which is the largest lexicographic and semantic work of today’s Albanian, goes beyond the standard language, including also the dialects of the Albanian language.

The work to create the dictionary has lasted four years and its presentation was made on the Day of the Alphabet, during the meeting of the Assembly of the Albanian Language, which is holding this Friday the second day of its work.

The new dictionary comes at a time when the Albanian language is facing numerous challenges, including language borrowings and problems with spelling.

The dictionary will be available online and is expected to be published in print early next year.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that after the publication of the draft, there will be a broad discussion on the new dictionary of the Albanian language, where based on the proposals that can be made, there can be improvements until the final edition.
