These are the headlines from Wedesday 27 November.

Formed president and prime minister and current leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has been released from house arrest by the court. In his first in-person speech before supporters at the PD headquarters, Berisha called for the creation of a caretaker government and for all opposition parties to form a grand coalition ahead of the 2025 elections.

Protests continued in Tirana over the murder of 14-year-old Martin Cani in front of the ‘Fan Noli’ school. Citizens gathered today in front of the Ministry of Education demanding the resignation of the minister, Ogreta Manastirliu, and more security in schools. Prime Minister Edi Rama announced earlier this week that schools would be subject to CCTV and scanners.

Albania will use Artificial Intelligence to translate EU documents as a part of the integration process. Prime Minister Edi Rama said that a process whixh took 7 years for Croatia to complete will be undertaken much faster. The government made a similar statement in 2023, announcing that discussions were ongoing with Mira Murati, head of open AI, to undertake the translation and transposition of EU documents.

The government has approved the end-of-year bonus for pensioners. 724 thousand pensioners will receive a bonus of 150 to 200 euros. According to the government, this is the largest bonus ever given. Meanwhile pensioners have held several protests in recent weeks where they stated they consider this sum insufficient.
